In the first installment of Assassin’s Creed, Desmond Miles voiced by Nolan North wakes up in a laboratory inside the Animus, which is a machine that allows him to relive the memories of his ancestor. He confronts the man responsible for bringing him to the Animus, only to be blackmailed by Vidic (Phil Proctor) for information only obtained by reliving the life of Altair.

When Desmond enters the Animus, he begins Altair’s story of retrieving the golden orb. When he fails his mission, his rank and weapons are taken from him. In order to reclaim his original title, he is sent on a mission to assassinate nine members of the Templar organization. Along the way, Altair must also collect data on each of the targets and report back.

Desmond is allowed some rest in between the trails of Altair, where he becomes immensely close with Dr. Vidic’s assistant, Lucy Stillman who is voiced by Kristen Bell. In these brief breaks, Desmond learns about modern-day Templars and what they are after.

For gamers with a budget gaming PC or a lower-end laptop, the original Assassin’s Creed will be easy to run as the game only requires a dual core processor, 2GB of memory, a DirectX 9.0-compatible graphics card, and 8GB of storage space.

2. Assassin’s Creed II (2009)

In this second installment in the Assassin’s Creed Saga, Desmond is training to be a modern-day assassin with the help from another past ancestor. The Animus inserts into the memories of Ezio. Ezio’s story begins during the 15th century Renaissance. He watches as his father and brothers are hung. Following that, he escapes the city and heads toward his uncle Mario’s villa.

During Ezio quest for revenge, he gains a few allies: one being the legendary Leonardo de Vinci. De Vinci enhance many of the assassin tools Ezio took from his father using schematics found in Altair’s Codex pages.

Desmond and Dr. Vidic run into a bit of a roadblock when they discover that parts of Ezio memories are being protected and are unable to be detected by Animus.

System Requirements

The 2nd Assassin’s Creed game will also run on any modern system with no problem. It requires that you have an Intel Core Duo E8200 or AMD Athlon II X4 620 processor, 2GB of RAM, a video card with 512MB of VRAM, and 17GB of hard drive space available.

3. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (2010)

The Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood game picks up where the previous games left off. Desmond, Lucy, Rebecca, and the rest of the gang set up camp in the ruins of the Villa Auditore. Once they are safe in hiding from the Templar, Desmond returns to live the life of Ezio.

The storyline of Ezio picks back up in 1499 when he exits the Vault. Ezio then returns home with his uncle Mario (Fred Tatasciore), only for Mario to be killed by Cesare. Cesare takes the Apple for himself and the Templars.

After the loss of his uncle, Ezio set out to restore Rome to its former glory by assassinating key players in Cesare’s organizing and sabotaging his resources. Ezio eventually recovers the Apple and hides it. When Desmond awakens, he is able to retrieve the Apple from what he has learned from Ezio’s remembers.

AC: Brotherhood is also a non-demanding game for modern systems as it only requires a dual-core processor, 2GB of memory, a DirectX 9.0 video card, and 8GB of hard drive space available.

4. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (2011)

In this installment of the Assassin’s Creed Saga, you see all three of the major characters as of now: Altair, Ezio, and Desmond. Ezio travels to 1511 A.D. Constantinople. Constantinople is divided into four districts: Constantine, Bayezid, Imperial, and Galata. The Templars completely populate the majority of the underground city of Cappadocia, which is where Ezio begins this journey.

While in Cappadocia, Ezio finds out that Altair has sealed an ancient artifact that could end he Templars forever. Ezio uses the relics of the First Civilization to relive Altair’s memories and experiences just like Desmond has been doing.

In the present day, though, Desmond is trapped inside of the Animus 2.0. He finds a safe mode called the Black Room where he must find a key memory that will link him back up with Altair and Ezio and wake him from his comatose state.

System Requirements

Similar to the first three installments of Assassin’s Creed, AC: Revelations won’t be too tough to run for most PC gamers. You’ll only need a dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a DirectX 9.0-compatible GPU, and 12GB of space available on your SSD or HDD.

5. Assassin’s Creed III (2012)

This fifth addition to the epic saga is set in 18th century America during the American Revolution. Assassin’s Creed III introduced a new character, Ratonhnhake:ton, also known as Connor. Connor’s father is the Grand Master of the Templar Order in the colonies.

Directly after the events of Revelations, Desmond and his gang find the Temple of the First Civilization in New York. Using the Apple of Eden, they are able to gain access to it. Juno influence causes Desmond to experience the life of Haytham Kenway in 1754 England once he reenters Animus. While inside his ancestor’s memories, Desmond learns that the Key does not open the Temple itself.

Once Ratonhnhake:ton (Conner) is born, the perspective does switch from Haytham to him. You learn how he became an assassin and of his trials and kills.

System Requirements

AC III will be a bit more taxing on system’s than the first four games, but not my much. As long as you have a CPU and GPU that have come out in the last 7-8 years, you should be able to run AC II with no problems.

6. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)

You would think that Desmond dying would be the end of Absergo using him for information about his ancestors, but it is not. They take samples from Desmond’s corpse that allow them to continue searching his memories using the Animus’ cloud computing abilities. Absergo then hires someone that can look into the memories and relive the life of Edward Kenway.

Edward Kenway was an 18th century pirate and grandfather of Conner from the previous game. He uncovers a plot between Templars in the British and Spanish empires. They tend to use their positions of power to pinpoint the Sage. The Sage is the only person that can lead them to the Observatory, which is a First Civilization device that can be used to spy on anyone anywhere.

By accidentally killing Duncan, Edward is thrust into the Templar-Assassin society.

System Requirements

AC IV: Black Flag sees a small bump in system requirements, but, again, you won’t need a high-end gaming desktop to run the game. The game recommends that you have at least an Intel Core i5-2400S or an AMD Phenom II x4 940 processor, an NVIDIA GTX 260 or an AMD Radeon HD 4870 graphics card, as well as at least 4GB of RAM and 30GB of storage available.

7. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue (2014)

In this installment, the Colonial Brotherhood of Assassins adds a new recruit to their order: Shay Patrick Cormac. While in training in the North Atlantic chapter, he meets another assassin that goes by the name of Adewale. Adewale brings devastating news of an earthquake that destroyed Port-au-Prince.

Shay is then recruited to investigate the Templar’s interest in the Precursor artifact and manuscript that are linked to the temple that so happened to be in Port-au-Prince. Shay then impersonates a Templar courier and delivers the artifact to Benjamin Franklin that is voiced by Rick Jones. Benjamin experiments with electricity generate a map that shows all the locations of the Precursor temples. A temple in Lisbon holds the Piece of Eden. Shay is sent to retrieve it.

However, once he learns of the danger involved with retrieving a Piece of Eden, he decides to forgo the mission and steal the manuscript so no more destruction can happen. The Brotherhood catch him, though and shoot him before he can destroy the manuscript.

System Requirements

AC: Rogue takes yet another small step up in terms of system requirements, but modern systems should be able to handle it as well. The game recommends having at least an Intel Core i5 2400s or AMD FX-6100 processor, an NVIDIA GTX 560Ti or AMD Radeon HD 6870 video card, 4GB of memory, and 12GB of available storage space.

8. Assassin’s Creed: Unity (2014)

Assassin’s Creed: Unity begins in 1307. A Templar hides a sword and book in a crypt before being assassinated. You then see the memory flash forward to de Molay’s death and him cursing King Phillip IV and Pope Clement V.

In the present time, Bishop, a member of the modern-day Assassin Brotherhood, takes control of the memory. The memory moves forward to Versailles in 1776. In this memory, Arno Dorian meets Elise De La Serre. She is the daughter of the Templar Grand Master. After this the story skips forwards to Arno sneaking into a party to meet with Elise. When he sneaks out, he finds the Grand Master murdered and is mistaken as the killer.

After he escapes from his prison cell, he returns home to Elise only to be turned away. He then joins the Brotherhood and makes finding all the Templars involved with De La Serre’s murder his targets.

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences gave Unity awards for its animation, art direction, and sound design.

Despite being released the same year as Black Flag, AC: Unity saw a big jump up in system requirements. Still, most modern gaming PCs or laptops should be able to handle this 5-year-old game. The game recommends having at least and Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD FX-8350 processor, a GTX 780 or Radeon R9 290X video card, 8GB of RAM, 50GB of storage space available.

9. Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (2015)

In this ninth installment of the Assassin’s Creed series, an assassin initiate is called upon to relive the lives of more assassins. This time around, the assassins happen to be twins Jacob and Evie Frye. The task is to find a Piece of Eden in London.

However, retrieving the Piece of Eden is more of a task since London has been overtaken by the Templar Grand Master, Crawford Starrick. Starrick’s agenda is to increase the Templars’ political power in the world. Little did he know that outside of London the Frye twins have already begun corrupting his plans.

Deciding to disobey the Brotherhood, the twins head to London where they meet an acquaintance of their father. Together, they begin defeating Templar controlled gangs and killing high ranking Templars. The end up forming their criminal gang called the Rooks and recruit various people with their mission.

Syndicated won the Game of the Year at both the 2015 GameSpot’s Game of the Year and the 2015 Canadian Videogame Awards.

10. Assassin’s Creed: Origins (2017)

In this tenth installment of the game, you go back to 49 BCE to meet Bayek and his son Khemu. They end up getting abducted by a group and masked men and taken to a vault in the Temple of Amun. There, the masked men give Bayek a dormant apple of Eden and try to force him to open a secret vault. While struggling to escape from their captors Bayek accidentally kills Khemu.

After the death of his son, Bayek’s goal is to kill all the men responsible for his father’s death. His quest leads to him various locations including Siwa and Alexandria. While in Alexandria, Bayek is introduced to Cleopatra who confirms that there are indeed more than the five men involved in Bayek’s death. There is a whole order known as the Order of Ancients, and their goal is to take over Egypt.

Cleopatra then reveals to Bayek who more of the members of the Order of Ancients are and tasks Bayek with killing them.

Origins won the Best Game, Game Design, and Best Performer (Abubakar Salim) awards at the 14th British Academy Games Awards.

Despite releasing nearly two years after AC: Unity, AC: Origins doesn’t have any different recommended system requirements. Origins recommends having at least an Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD FX-8350 processor, a GTX 760 or Radeon R9 280X graphics card, 8GB of RAM, and 50GB of storage space.

11. Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey (2018)

The plot of this Assassin’s Creed begins with the battle of Thermopylae between the Spartans and the Persians. King Leonidas, the leader of the Spartan army, wins the battle, only to be informed that the Persians have found the mountain path.

In the present, King Leonidas spear has been recovered, and it holds DNA that can activate Animus. Inside Animus, the memory starts with the Misthios as a child. After being thrown off a mountain and survived, the Misthios flee to the island of Kephallonis.

Later, the Misthios is hired to assassinate the wolf of Sparta, only to find out that the Wolf of Sparta is none other than Nikolaos. The Misthios travels to Delph where they meet Herodotos and are warned about the Cult of Kosmos. The Cult of Kosmos wants them and their family gone. The Misthios decides to clear out the Cult before the Cult can seize control of Greece and get rid of them.

Odyssey won multiple awards, including Game of the Year by the Australian Games Awards, and the Statue of Liberty Award for the Best World by the New York Game Awards.

The second newest edition in the Assassin’s Creed Series, Odyssey, is a bit more demanding than the previous games. It still should run find on most mid-range desktops and laptops, though. In fact, a new RTX 3060 laptop should run this game just fine. It’s recommended requirements are an Intel Core i7-3770 or Ryzen 5 1400 processor, a GTX 970 or a Radeon R9 290 video card, 8GB of memory, 46GB of storage space available.

12. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla (2021)

If you like Vikings then the second newest installment of Assassin’s Creed is worth checking out. In the beginning of AC Valhalla, you travel back to 9th-century Norway and watch a viking town get raided by the warlord Kjotve through the eyes of Eivor Varinsdottir.

Years later, playing as Eivor, you will lead your clan to England as part of the Norse invasion and set a course forward for your clansmen. During the game, Eivor meets the Hidden Ones and joins them in their battle against the Order of the Ancients.

On March 10th, 2022, Ubisoft released the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion for Valhalla, which contains roughly 30+ hours of new gameplay content and a variety of new features.

With the introduction of a new Grammy award category (Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media), Valhalla became the first game in history to win a Grammy award in 2023. Stephanie Economou composed the soundtrack and was on stage to accept the award.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla comes with a minimum requirement of a Ryzen 3 1200/i5-4460 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and an R9 380/GTX 960 GPU and a recommeded requirement of a Ryzen 5 1600/i74790 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and an RX 570/GTX 1060 GPU. They have even given recommended requirements for 1440P and 4K systems as well, with 4K gameplay requiring a Ryzen 7 3700X/i7-9700K, 16GB of RAM, and a RX 5700XT/RTX 2080 GPU.

13. Assassin’s Creed Mirage (2023)

On September 10th 2022, Ubisoft revealed plans for their next release in the AC world, Assassin’s Creed Infinity. However, we learned that Assassin’s Creed Infinity will not be its own game, but rather a “hub” that will grant access to a variety of AC-themed content, including free-to-play games, multi-player games, and traditional AC-style games.

The first major title to be released within this new Assassin’s Creed hub will be Mirage. The game released in October 2023. While originally intended as an expansion pack for Valhalla, Mirage will now be released as a standalone title, officially becoming the 13th installment in the AC series.

Mirage will be set in Baghdad 20 years before the events of Valhalla and will follow Basim as he goes from common thief to full-on Assassin.

System Requirements

To run the new Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft requires that you have at minimum an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 / Intel Core i7-4790K processor, an AMD RX 570 / Intel Arc A380 / NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 40GB of storage available. The recommended requirements for averaging 60FPS on a 1080P monitor are an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 / Intel Core i7-8700K processor, an AMD RX 5600 XT / Intel Arc A750 / NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti GPU, 16GB of RAM, and 40GB of storage available.
